Hello & Welcome

I’m Nina, a Filipina African American who spent my childhood straddling two worlds—too much of one, never enough of the other. I was always asked to explain, to define, to shrink into boxes that never quite fit. Being mixed-race felt like standing under a magnifying glass, constantly prodded with the question, “What are you?”—as if my identity were a puzzle meant to be solved. My mixed identity was a melody the world wasn’t ready to hear, but it was mine to sing.

As a child, I yearned for stories that reflected my journey—stories that would teach me to exist fully, unapologetically, in my skin. But those stories were nowhere to be found. The books, the conversations, the representation—they all felt like missing pieces. So, like so many of us, I wandered through life searching for spaces to belong, spaces that weren’t made for someone like me.

Then, a moment arrived. Not a quiet revelation, but a spiritual awakening—an unraveling of everything I thought I knew about myself. In my darkest hour, I was forced to face the unvarnished truth of who I was. It wasn’t gentle or soothing; it was a loud, unapologetic shift that made me question everything. But in that chaos, I found the courage to claim what was mine. I let go of a life that no longer served me, trusting the quiet voice of intuition to guide me toward my true path. It wasn’t easy, but for the first time, I felt in tune with something real, something powerful.

And that’s when Deep Colors emerged—not just as a space but as a movement. A place where we no longer shrink or silence ourselves. A place where we stop apologizing for the fullness of who we are. Here, we are not puzzles to be solved or stories to be simplified. We are a tapestry of contradictions, of histories unspoken, of futures unwritten. We are the melody that doesn’t need to fit into a rhythm. We don’t have to choose; we are everything at once. Every radiant shade, every twist of fate, every intricate piece of us is meant to be celebrated—not explained away.

These journals, eBooks, and workbooks aren’t just pages to fill—they are tools for empowerment, healing, and the discovery of strength in the fullness of our identities. Whether you’re exploring your roots, grappling with the weight of society’s expectations, or simply searching for a place to reflect, these pages invite you to see the beauty in your complexity.

You are not fragmented. You are whole. A symphony of history and future, softness and strength, poetry and power. You are neither too much nor too little—you are exactly as you are meant to be.

Let’s take up space, tell our stories, and create something that resonates deeply within us. Together.
